Questions
Drains and sewer lines
Why does my drain keep clogging?
Repeat clogs usually point to grease buildup, roots or a sag in the line. A camera inspection shows the cause.
Who is responsible for my sewer line?
Generally the homeowner owns the sewer line from the house to the city connection.
Should I use chemical drain cleaners?
We don't recommend them. They rarely clear real clogs and can damage older pipes.
Questions
Water heaters and leaks
How long does a water heater last?
A tank water heater typically lasts around 8 to 12 years.
How can I tell if I have a hidden leak?
Turn off all fixtures and watch your water meter. If it moves, you likely have a leak.
Who fixes a leak at the water meter?
In Memphis, leaks at the meter or on the utility side are MLGW's responsibility. Leaks between the meter and the house are usually the homeowner's.
